Living Funerals
A living funeral or living wake is a chance to gather, celebrate, and speak from the heart.
Rather than waiting until after death, family and friends come together to honour a life, tell stories, express love, gratitude, forgiveness, laughter, and connection in real time. For many people, it becomes one of the most meaningful gatherings of their lives.
These gatherings can be gentle and reflective, joyful and light-hearted, or a mixture of both. They may be held at home, in a garden, by the beach, at a favourite café, winery, hall, or anywhere that feels comfortable and personal. Some include music, photos, readings, shared meals, memory sharing, or symbolic moments such as candle lighting or letter writing.
A living funeral is not about giving up hope. It is about making space for honesty, love, presence, and connection. It allows people to hear the words that are so often left unsaid and gives families the opportunity to create meaningful memories together.
As a celebrant, I can gently guide and support you in creating a gathering that feels warm, safe, and authentic to you and your family. Whether you would like something simple and intimate or more structured and ceremonial, I can help create a meaningful experience that reflects the person at the centre of it all.
Because some moments in life deserve to be witnessed, honoured, and shared while we still can.
