Cheryl Boles

I handed in my Nursing and Midwifery registrations in early 2023 after over 40 years of service. Since then I have studied celebrancy and now enjoy the time I get to spend with couples and families crafting and delivering bespoke ceremonies that honour some of life’s most important moments.

As it turns out, my nursing and midwifery life combined with my experience of raising three children was the perfect training ground for celebrancy.

Decades of early mornings and late nights as a nurse for the Royal Flying Doctor Service meant that I had to be exceptionally organised - the undisputed queen of a check list!

I also know however, that being organised only takes one so far in the bush! I also needed to be able to respond to patients who might not follow a check list or arrive on time for an appointment. This taught me to think on my feet and be able to improvise. Never did I expect that this line of work, packing and unpacking the plane, year after year, all across the bush would help me to prepare for ceremonies where the best man has forgotten the rings, someone has forgotten their speech or an extra unexpected 50 guests have turned up.

So this is who I am now. Enjoying the fruits of 30 years of parenting,40 years of nursing and midwifery and a lifetime of learning that continues as I learn something new from every couple and every family.

I live in a little old shack with a big verandah on the edge of the Spencer Gulf and in the shadow of the Flinders Ranges. My life here is governed by the tides, the sun, the wind and at sometimes of the year the flies!

The shack is available to hire for intimate weddings, end of life ceremonies or living funerals from May to September. Pictures of the space are featured in the image on my front page.
